Bryan ISD is excited to spotlight Lalani Jarmon, a 7th grader at Davila Middle School.
On December 8, she was surprised with an iPad while in class as she was named one of 12 runners-up in Optimum's 18th annual Hispanic Heritage Essay Contest! The contest, which was open this fall to middle school and high school students across the country, asked students to write about how they connect with Hispanic culture.

“Although I am not Hispanic by heritage, Hispanic culture has become an important and cherished part of my life through the people I love most," she wrote in her essay.
“I learned that Hispanic heritage, the Hispanic community, they look out for each other,” she added. “I just really like writing.”

“But I’m very, very proud of my baby. She gives her all when it does come to school. She’s always striving to better herself academically and if there’s a problem, she is a problem solver, so I genuinely look up to her,” said Cynthia Stanley ,Lalani’s Mother.
A representative from Optimum, Lalani’s mother and school administrators were part of the very special recognition.

“Optimum tends to be very local in giving back,” said Edith Acevedo, Optimum Director of Sales, at the event.

Lalani said the iPad is something she has been wanting for several years. She said she loves writing and is also passionate about drawing and art, all of which the iPad will support. Congratulations, Lalani!
